About Us
Rooted in family legacy and the rolling hills of Southwest Wisconsin, Spurgeon Winery has been crafting heartfelt, locally sourced wines since 1982. From our early hand-planted vineyards to the bottles we share today, every wine reflects our dedication to quality, authenticity, and the rich flavors of Wisconsin-grown fruit.

How we began:
Spurgeon Winery’s story began in 1977, when newlyweds Glen and Mary Spurgeon purchased an 80-acre homestead that had been part of Mary’s family for decades. What once grew corn on the hilltops and pastured cattle on the slopes slowly transformed into a dream in the making. A half-row of grapes turned into five acres… then ten… as vine after vine was planted across the sun-kissed hillsides of Southwest Wisconsin. By 1982, they bottled their very first vintage and opened the doors to a small winery nestled in a quiet valley—built on determination, family legacy, and a deep love for the land.

Today, while the Spurgeon's no longer maintain estate vineyards, the winery continues to honor that original vision by thoughtfully sourcing high-quality grapes and fruit from trusted growers. That same spirit of hard work, heritage, and craftsmanship lives on in every bottle, rooted in tradition and shaped by decades of experience.
Where we are now:
That devotion to quality and authenticity is alive in every bottle we make. Spurgeon Winery proudly crafts true Wisconsin wines, using locally grown grapes, honey, cranberries, and cherry juice chosen for purity and flavor. Though we specialize in sweet and fruit-forward wines—like the fan-favorite Ruby Lady and our smooth Blueberry Mead—we also have plenty to offer dry wine drinkers, from case-loved dry reds to our versatile St. Pepin. A couple of our varieties begin with Lake Erie Wine Belt juice, but each one is fermented, crafted, and finished right here at home. Whether you lean dry, sweet, or somewhere in between, we invite you to experience wines that not only taste incredible but carry with them the history, heart, and heritage of our lands.
